Denzel, ‘Django’, Quvenzhané Wallis Nominated for Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has recognized the work of Denzel Washington, Quentin Tarantino and the little girl from “Beasts of the Southern Wild” in its nominations for 2013 Academy Awards.

Slavery-era dramas “Django Unchained” and “Lincoln” will face off for Best Picture, while “Django” also scored a nom for Best Supporting Actor for Christoph Waltz. None of the black actors from the film received nominations.

“Beasts of the Southern Wild” received four nominations, including Best Director, Best Picture and Best Actress for the film’s 9-year-old star Quvenzhané Wallis – the year’s youngest nominee.

“Flight” star and two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington was nominated for Best Actor. This is the actor’s sixth career nomination.

“Lincoln” received the most nominations with 12, including Best Picture, Best Director (Steven Spielberg) and Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis).
